A 23-year-old woman from Coquitlam has been handed a suspended sentence and put on probation for 15 months for hitting a cyclist in North Vancouver last summer.

Heather Lynn Weglo was also banned from driving for 12 months after pleading guilty to dangerous driving causing bodily harm in North Vancouver provincial court.

The accident happened on Skyline Drive Aug. 10, 2011 just after 6 p.m.

Weglo was driving north on the narrow road as a 53-yearold cyclist and two friends were heading south. Weglo hit the cyclist as both rounded a curve in opposite directions.

The cyclist landed on the hood of Weglo's car and fell to the ground. He suffered injuries including a neck fracture and concussion and was hospitalized for four days.

Weglo was driving too fast and was on the wrong side of the road at the time of the accident, according to Crown counsel spokesman Neil Mackenzie. There was some evidence that Weglo had been drinking, but no breath test was taken at the scene, he added.

Weglo also pleaded guilty to a charge of mischief that resulted from her kicking a police car and causing more than $500 damage when she was arrested.

Weglo has no prior criminal record.
