Residents may see more police officers out and about the next two weeks in response to several reports of break-ins.

Coquitlam RCMP explain Mailliardville and a section of Port Coquitlam south of the river have recently become targets of theft and property crime, especially from unlocked vehicles and local businesses.

According to the latest CompStat report, there have been 26 break-and-enter reports called in to local Mounties at businesses and homes, as well as more than 40 alerts of theft from vehicles.

Specific locations of these reports can be found on the map below.

Between now and Feb. 22, RCMP are set to patrol and keep and extra eyes on the following areas:

AREA #1

  • From North Road in the west to Guilby Street in the east
  • From Cottonwood Avenue in the north to Rochester Avenue in the south

AREA #2

  • From Reeve Street in the west to Oxford Street in the east
  • From Suffolk Avenue in the north to Irvine Avenue in the south

As well, Coquitlam Mounties are encouraging residents and businesses to take all precautionary steps necessary to protect personal property.

This includes:

  • Locking doors and closing windows
  • Parking in well-lit/well-populated areas where "natural surveillance" can serve as a deterrent
  • Closing garage doors at night
  • Taking your garage opener, house and/or business keys and vehicle registration papers out of your vehicle when it’s parked (if thieves steal these items, they could use them to commit other crimes including identity theft and break-and-enter)

Anyone who witnesses theft in progress or suspicious activity is encouraged to call Coquitlam RCMP at 604-945-1550, or call 911.
