THE City of North Vancouver has announced a line-up of established stars and up-and-comers for its second annual Concerts in the Square series on the community's waterfront.
Shipbuilder's Square is scheduled to be transformed into a live music Mecca for Saturday afternoons and evenings throughout August starting this weekend, following the event's well received trial run in 2011.
This year's series features solo performances by members of some notable Canadian bands including Wide Mouth Mason's Shaun Verreault on Aug. 4 and, Neil Osborne of 54/40 on Aug 25.
Also headlining events for this year: legendary roots musician Barney Bentall on Aug. 11 and Peak Performance Project winner Kyprios on Aug. 19.
Local troubadours invited to play this year include Headwater, The Whethermen, Babe Gurr, Lynn Canyon Band and Ben Sigston.
Sunday Aug. 25 will also feature special matinee performances by the Dal Richards Orchestra and the North Shore Celtic Ensemble targeted towards North Vancouver seniors.
The concerts are free and open to all. Those 19 and older can also join the revelry in the event's beer and wine garden.
Beyond the music, the series also features Art on the Pier, a competitive painting competition on Aug 4, an exhibition of album cover and music art on Aug. 11, photos from Langara College's photography program on Aug 18 and a exhibition of local artists' work on Aug. 25.
