Saving Lives One Penny at a Time: The Lions Gate Gogos, which supports the Stephen Lewis Foundation, have collected $7127.51 in pennies since 2008 and would like the public's help to reach a goal of $10,000 before the penny is withdrawn from circulation. Donations can be dropped off until June 30 at the following locations: Seymour Art Gallery, Highlands Cleaners, The Red Tulip Gift Gallery, Village Fish Market and North Shore Smile. Learn to Fish Program: The Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC will offer classes for families every Sunday (excluding July 1) until Aug. 19 from 10 a.m. to noon at Rice Lake in the Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve, North Vancouver. CoolDrinks: A casual gathering to connect and inspire community members interested in taking action on climate change will meet Wednesday, May 30, 6: 30-9 p.m. at Cheers Restaurant, 125 East Second St., North Vancouver. Environment expert Stephen Salter will lead an evening of presentations and workshop discussions on how leading cities design their energy, water and waste infrastructure with nature and how this approach has benefited society. The Search for Extrasolar Planets and Extraterrestrial Life: The North Shore Jewish Community Centre/Congregation Har El will host a free conversation with astronomer Stanley Greenspoon Wednesday, May 30, 7: 30 p.m. at 1305 Taylor Way, West Vancouver. Greenspoon will lead the audience through a presentation and discussion on the astronomical and physical issues involved in the discovery of extrasolar planets, examine the criteria for the existence of life on them and throw open for discussion the effects the discovery of extraterrestrial life, intelligent or otherwise, could have on humans. Input Needed: The District of West Vancouver is planning for a post-disaster standard public safety building. The public's input is needed at an Open House prior to council making significant decisions for the project. The Open House will begin at 7 p.m. and participants are encouraged to come anytime between 7 and 9 p.m. as there will be no formal presentation. Cedar Garden Assisted Living will host its annual Spring Bazaar Saturday, June 2, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at 1250 Cedar Village Close, North Vancouver. West Vancouver School District Centennial Celebration will take place Saturday, June 2, 9: 30 a.m.-1 p.m. at Hollyburn elementary, 1329 Duchess Ave. The festivities will begin with a Squamish Nation blessing followed by maypole dancing, vintage games and a kids versus firefighter's tug of war. There will also be displays and music and the event will end with cupcakes for everyone.

Team Finn Pancake Breakfast: The Botto Team presents a pancake breakfast and coffee by donation to benefit the Ride to Conquer Cancer event in support of the B.C. Cancer Foundation, on Sunday, June 3, 8-10 a.m., at Tommy's Cafe. Bobs and Lolo will perform on the main stage at Lynn Valley Village 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
