Capilano University president Paul Dangerfield will be stepping down, temporarily, on medical leave.
The University announced Friday that Toran Savjord, vice-president of strategic planning, assessment and institutional effectiveness, will serve as acting president while Dangerfield is treated for a heart condition.
In a letter to the campus community, Dangerfield said he will undergo surgery next week and spend eight to 10 weeks in recovery.
“As you might imagine, this is not a situation of my choosing. Still, balancing the importance of attending to my health alongside my responsibilities to the university requires that I step back from my role as president for the duration of my prescribed recovery period,” Dangerfield stated in a release. “Although I will miss being on campus and connecting with everyone, my prognosis is excellent and I look forward to returning to my role with renewed good health.”
Dangerfield said he has full confidence in the university’s leadership to helm the ship while he convalesces.
