The two young passengers of a flipped Mini Cooper are fortunate to be walking away from an accident on Capilano Road Wednesday afternoon.

North Vancouver RCMP was called to the scene around 2 p.m. to find the car resting on its side near the westbound off-ramp on the shoulder of the road.

“The vehicle was driving too fast for road conditions and collided with the median, which caused it to flip over on its side and end up in the oncoming lane,” said Cpl. Richard De Jong, North Vancouver RCMP spokesman.

A ticket of $167 was issued to the 22-year-old driver, who admitted he was probably going too fast. Both the driver and his 20-year-old passenger are residents of North Vancouver.

“They could have quite easily collided with oncoming vehicles in the oncoming lane, fortunately that didn’t occur,” said De Jong. “So just a great reminder for motorists to slow down when weather’s inclement and there’s heavy rain on the road that often is the same as snowy roads because there’s less traction.”

An ambulance attended the scene but there were no serious injuries from the crash.
