A Capilano University student was recently honoured for his academic accomplishments with a $2,500 scholarship.
William Person was selected as the Certified Management Accountant Society of B.C. (CMA B.C.) 2012 recipient of the Marian Easton Memorial Scholarship. According to a written statement, society members were impressed with his achievements and proud to offer him support in the next steps of pursuing a CMA designation, said Diane Chung, the society's vice-president, marketing and new business development.
As part of the society's dedication to educating and developing business leaders, the scholarship is presented to a student who has demonstrated outstanding achievement in the course, BFIN 431- Advanced Management Accounting.
The $2,500 is used towards the CMA Strategic Leadership Program, a professional development program that focuses on the best of contemporary and emerging management practises while developing the accounting, leadership, interpersonal, decision-making, and communication skills essential for today's successful management professional. Upon completion of the program, students are awarded the CMA designation.
CMA B.C. scholarship awards are offered to post-secondary students who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement in strategic management or managerial accounting courses and have a strong interest in pursuing a career in accounting and a professional accounting designation. Fifteen scholarships are awarded to post-secondary students across the province annually.
