Two North Vancouver construction projects were honoured at the second annual Commercial Building Awards, hosted by the Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver, Sept. 29.

The Parissa Laboratories, located at 2400 Dollarton Highway, received the excellence award for the industrial category and a merit award for green energy/efficiency.

The Cliffwalk at Capilano Suspension Bridge Park, 3735 Capilano Rd., won an excellence award for community facility - tourist attraction.

The awards, which were given out at the Marriot Vancouver Pinnacle, were based on innovation, talent and collaboration, according to a media release. Judges also looked at whether or not a project was esthetically pleasing, the materials used, unique architectural features and environmental sensitivity.

BOARD ELECTION

A North Vancouver businessman was recently elected to the 2011/2012 Greater Vancouver Home Builders' Association board of directors.

John Friswell, owner of CCI Renovations, is one of 11 directors to be elected to the association's board this year.

CCI Renovations, which formed in 1992, specializes in residential renovations but also does commercial, industrial and recreational projects.

The GVHBA is made up of 712 companies that represent developers, builders, renovators, sub-trades, suppliers, manufacturers and other professionals in the field.

CULTURAL VALUES

A North Shore organization was recently recognized for having a great workplace culture that enhances the performance of its employees.

North Shore Credit Union was named one of Waterstone Human Capital's 10 Most Admired Corporate Cultures of 2011 in Western Canada.

"We believe culture can make or break an organization. Our employees are aligned with our vision and have a feeling of shared mission, belonging and meaning in their work at North Shore Credit Union and we are honoured to have been selected for this award," said Chris Catliff, president and CEO of the North Shore Credit Union, in a media release.

The credit union is now up against national competition and could possibly be named one of Canada's 10 Most Admired Corporate Cultures of 2011.
