A local businessman and his partner have been recognized as two of the province's leading entrepreneurs.

North Vancouver's Andre Kroecher, vice president innovation of Daiya Foods, and CEO Greg Blake were named 2012 Pacific Region Emerging Entrepreneurs at the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards.

Daiya is known for its non-dairy, gluten-free cheese, which debuted in 2009 and is now sold at thousands of stores across North America.

Kroecher and Blake received their award at a gala Oct. 4 at the Vancouver Trade and Convention Centre. More than 1,400 guests including dignitaries like Premier Christy Clark were in attendance.

LEADING LADY

A North Vancouver physiotherapist has been recognized for boosting the local economy through her business.

Paige Larson, owner of North Shore Sports Medicine, has won one of six RBC Canadian Woman Entrepreneur Awards. Larson picked up the HKMB HUB Impact Award for Western Canada, which goes to an entrepreneur who creates jobs and encourages prosperity in her community.

North Shore Sports Medicine spans three clinics with 20 beds and employs 13 healthcare practitioners.

Larson stood out amongst 3.500 award nominees. She will be honoured at a gala in Toronto on Nov. 28.

BUILT TO LAST

The Canadian Home Builders' Association of B.C. has lauded a local construction company's efforts to go green. Blackfish Homes and Construction recently received one of the association's Built Green Awards in the Whole House Renovation category. Architect Alex Voth, who worked with Blackfish Homes on the project, is also a North Shore resident.

The CHBA B.C.'s new environmental stewardship division was created to recognize sustainable building practices.
