A body was found Tuesday in Hanes Valley on the North Shore mountains, say police.

Staff at North Vancouver RCMP, Vancouver Police, North Shore Rescue and the B.C. Coroner’s Office were all involved in retrieving the body, said Brian Montague, a Vancouver Police Department spokesman.

Montague would not say why police from Vancouver were working on the case.

"Unfortunately we are not providing any additional information until the identity of the body is confirmed and the next of kin have all been notified,” he said.

The trail through Hanes valley is rated as difficult on vancouvertrails.com and it is generally hiked from July to September.

In January, Vancouver police asked members of the North Shore Rescue team to search the Hanes Valley for missing hiker Liang Jin, 21.

Also known to be missing is British tourist Tom Billings, who disappeared in November 2013. Weeks later, a witness said Billings was on the North Shore and headed to the backcountry.
