Buses in West Vancouver will be back on the roads Tuesday morning.

The union representing West Vancouver’s Blue Bus drivers and mechanics announced buses would be rolling again first thing Tuesday morning after the two sides in the contract dispute reached a tentative deal Monday evening. Picket lines at West Vancouver’s bus depot came down Monday night.

The tentative deal was reached after direct bargaining talks took place for several hours between the Amalgamated Transit Union and District of West Vancouver Monday afternoon.

That came after bus riders were left stranded across West Vancouver Monday morning as the first strike in 100 years hit the transit system.

“We’re very happy we’ve reached a tentative agreement tonight that means bus service resumes on Tuesday morning,” said Bill Tieleman, spokesman for the union.

No details were immediately available about the deal, which will also be subject to a ratification vote by union members.

“A one day strike in 100 years is not too bad a record for a union,” said Tieleman.
