Art contest celebrates trees

B.C. children with a green thumb and an artistic hand are invited to take part in an art competition to celebrate National Forest Week this fall.

Children between the ages of four and 12 are invited to draw a picture of what forests in their community mean to them.

The entrants will be divided into three age groups with one winner crowned in each group.

The three winners will each take home $50 Chapters gift certificates, according to a press release issued by the Association of B.C. Forest Professionals and the Truck Loggers Association, the two organizations holding the competition.

The contest opens Sept. 18 and closes Oct. 19.

The winning artists will have their pictures published in the ABCFP and TLA magazines and posted on the websites of both organizations.

Parents can submit their own children's artwork or teachers can enter the work of the whole classroom. "Learning what kids see in the forests is an important exercise and one we enjoy doing every year," said Dwight Yochim, executive director of the TLA in the release.

The entry form is available at www.abcfp. ca/about_us/events/national_forest_week.asp
