THE driver of a car that may have been travelling at 200 kilometres an hour before it crashed on Highway 1 last week failed a roadside sobriety test.

The crash closed the eastbound highway for three hours on the evening of June 29.

Fire and ambulance workers attended the flipped vehicle and removed the driver, who was not seriously hurt.

Speed and alcohol were the major factors in the crash, according to West Vancouver Police Department's Cpl. Jag Johal.

Another vehicle on the highway was damaged by flying debris from the crashing automobile that, said Johal, can be very dangerous. "It can cause a chain reaction," he said.
