A West Vancouver child was sent to hospital after a driver knocked him off his bike as he rode to school Thursday morning.

The collision happened around 8:40 a.m. at Inglewood Avenue and 13th Street.

The 10-year-old was riding west through the intersection when the northbound driver, who had already stopped at the stop sign, continued through the intersection before it was clear, running the boy down.

“Initially, it seemed like (the injuries) would be quite a bit more serious. Fortunately, it seems the cyclist suffered what appears to be a dislocated knee. He is being kept in hospital for assessment to determine whether or not there’s a concussion,” said Const. Jeff Palmer, West Vancouver police spokesman.

The driver, an 18-year-old Vancouver woman, stayed at the scene and co-operated with police. She has been ticketed for failing to yield after a stop, Palmer said.
