If you can sing well and are looking for a chance to show off your talents, a Coquitlam resident has a vocal competition for you.

But you only have until Friday, March 25 to get an audition tape in.

Susie McGregor, a former Port Coquitlam resident who, at 14, was the first winner in the PNE talent search contest, is hosting Dare to Shine in partnership with the Evergreen Cultural Centre in Coquitlam.

The first round of the competition is on April 1 and 2, while the semi-finals are set for May 8 with the finals on June 11.

Open to all ages and singing abilities, Dare to Shine aims to celebrate musical talent from across British Columbia.

And winners will receive prizes such as

  • scholarships to the Nimbus School of Recording Arts
  • professional recording sessions
  • performance videos
  • web hosting packages
  • a show at the Evergreen on Sept. 24, 2022

As well, one winner will get the opening spot for McGregor’s performance at the Evergreen on Feb. 11, 2023.

Free workshops will be available for contestants who make it to the semi-finals and finals.

McGregor, who fronted such bands in the 1990s as Saddle Rock, Wild Frontier and The Thrillbillies, released her first CD, titled Something Real, in 1996 and toured across Canada in 1998 to promote it. The next year, she dropped a Celtic music EP.
