By the end of the Sixties there was no doubt that rock'n'roll was here to stay. Even with new musicians bursting onto the scene every year there was no doubt as the Seventies began that the Rolling Stones were the greatest band in the world.
In 1972 the Stones' summer tour of North America was the bands biggest ever. After three incredible albums, Beggar's Banquet, Let It Bleed, and Sticky Fingers, their most expansive work was being released, the double album Exile on Main Street. The band was out to celebrate and with private jet, an enormous touring party, and sold out shows it was a wild ride.
Jim Marshall joined the party for seven days and captured the power of their performances, a break for some studio recording and the scene back stage. Marshall demanded complete access for his work and got it. He and his camera became one of them and as Keith Richard says in the book's foreward, "Once Jim was in, he was another Stone. He caught us with our trousers down and got the ups and downs. I love his work."
From the more than 1000 images he shot have come the just over one hundred that make up this book. Both colour and black and white beautifully reproduced photos fill the pages and take you on the road with The Rolling Stones.
