THE Ultimate Traveller presents the Mysterious Lands of the Maya in four Wednesday presentations at the Ferry Building Gallery throughout January.

THE Ultimate Traveller presents the Mysterious Lands of the Maya in four Wednesday presentations at the Ferry Building Gallery throughout January.

Series host Peter Langer visited Guatemala and Mexico last year and prepared four shows exploring the region. The year 2012 marks an important period in the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar with Dec. 21 the end of the 13th baktun cycle (consisting of 144,000 days, equal to 394.26 tropical years) and the beginning of the 14th baktun.

For those who follow the ancient Maya traditions, the belief in the influence of the cosmos on human lives and the necessity of paying homage to the gods through rituals continues to find expression in a modern hybrid Christian-Maya faith.

The Ultimate Traveller will focus on the following regions: Yucatan Peninsula, Wednesday, Jan. 11; Guatemala, Wednesday, Jan. 18; Chiapas, Wednesday, Jan. 25 and Oaxaca, Wednesday, Feb. 1. All shows in the series start at 7 p.m. at the Ferry Building Gallery, 1414 Argyle Avenue, West Vancouver.

Admission $15. For more information on the series visit www.theultimatetraveller.com or call 604-925-7290.
