On Thursday, Aug. 2 at 7 p.m. Pacific Cinémathèque celebrates 40 years of screening independent cinema with a ticket to Alfred Hitchcocks North by Northwest for $1 the admission price in 1972. All ages are welcome, and annual membership fees will be waived. Tickets will only be sold at the door, first-come, first-served.

A successful run of 40 years and counting is no mean feat for any organization, let alone one in the not-for-profit arts sector, says Jim Sinclair, the Cinémathèques executive and artistic director. In many ways, Pacific Cinémathèque remains one of Vancouvers hidden cultural treasures, even if were actually one of the citys most senior cultural organizations. The quality, quantity, and scope of our public programs rank with those offered by leading film institutes in any major city.

In the coming months, the Cinémathèque will continue marking its 40th year with a historical exhibit, a fundraising gala and limited edition merchandise.
