Cast from 'Something Rotten!' The musical, a riff on Shakespeare's stardom, will be at Stanley Park's Malkin Bowl this summer.

After a two-year hiatus, Vancouver's Theatre Under the Stars (TUTS) is returning to the stage in Stanley Park.

This year's season features two musicals; one is set hundreds of years in the future, the other is set hundreds of years in the past. Both were written in the last 20 years.

TUTS will bring We Will Rock You and Something Rotten! to the Malkin Bowl, starting in July. The shows run until the end of August.

"TUTS’ 2022 season showcases two sensational musicals that epitomize all of the best qualities of the beloved theatrical genre: elaborate set design, dazzling costumes, and show stopping musical numbers," states the theatre in a press release.

We Will Rock You — set 300 years from now in a dystopian, rock-and-roll-free future — is stuffed full of songs from Queen. Opposite nights Something Rotten! follows playwright brothers stuck in the shadow of William Shakespeare who come up with a whole new type of play: the musical.

"An irreverent homage to Broadway, Something Rotten! is a whimsical satire that both celebrates and pokes fun at everything audiences adore about Broadway," says TUTS.

There will be two unique performances during the shows' runs. A special relaxed version of Something Rotten will take place Monday, July 25 designed for any who wants to experience the show in a more relaxed manner including those on the Autism spectrum, those with sensory disorders, or people with neurological disorders.

On Aug. 3 a much more bombastic version of We Will Rock You will happen as they encourage people to sing along and dress up like rockstars.

Early bird tickets are available until June 15 and start at $20.
