March is Family Month

About this time of year when the skies are the color of the sidewalks, most of us are ready for a pre-spring getaway. If balmy beaches aren't in your budget why not take advantage of Whistler's March Family Month sale.

About this time of year when the skies are the color of the sidewalks, most of us are ready for a pre-spring getaway. If balmy beaches aren't in your budget why not take advantage of Whistler's March Family Month sale. That's right; one of the best ski resorts in the world is having its biggest family holiday sale ever.

Whistler is well known for offering incredible skiing and for hosting the 2010 Olympics. But not everyone knows that Whistler is one of the best places around for a family friendly holiday and Tourism Whistler says March is an ideal time to give it a try.

"Whistler is always a great destination for families," says Senior Communications Manager Breton Murphy. "And during March, with the exceptional promotions geared toward families, there are even more reasons to visit the resort."

Most hotels are offering discounts with free lift tickets, and rental shops have a free rental for kids under 12 with every threeday adult ticket and rental purchase. The Fairmont Chateau Whistler's four-night March Family Freedom package offers two free lift tickets, free passes for kids under 12, free three-day rentals for every adult three-day rental package purchased and free dining for kids under five. Day trippers get one free children's lift pass for every adult lift ticket you buy if purchased before Feb. 29.

Cross country skiers get a break too with a special family day pass and rental package at the Whistler Olympic Park home of the 2010 Olympic Nordic events.

And you'll pay less in March if whizzing through the treetops of old growth forests while strapped into a harness and suspended from a steel cable is your thing. Ziptrek has discounted rates for children between six and fourteen. You can choose a gentle zip down the hill, or you and the kids can drop 20 stories and reach speeds of 60 mph.

More faint-of-heart visitors may choose the discounted tickets of a Whistler-style history lesson at the Whistler Museum or the interactive exhibits of two aboriginal nations at the Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre.

Discounts are good but free is better. There's free outdoor skating at the brand new Olympic Plaza skating rink. And don't miss the spectacular Sunday Fire and Ice Show at the base of Whistler Mountain or the cook at Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory shaping liquid chocolate into truffles and Smartiescovered chocolate candy apples. Of course it's always free to explore the Village Stroll or take in Whistler's stunning scenery and fresh mountain air.
