SILENCE, Ireland's entry in this year's European Union Film Festival, straddles the border between documentary and fiction.
Made by Cork-based documentarian Pat Collins, in collaboration with writer and co-scenarist Eoghan Mac Giolla BhrÃde, the film follows a soundman on a "psycho-geographical journey" from Berlin to Donegal recording locations that are free of man-made noise. Silence, screening Monday, Nov. 26 at 7 p.m., documents inner and outer worlds as it follows the soundman capturing silence in situ.
In all 26 films from 26 countries in the European Union will be shown over the next two weeks at the Cinémathèque. Other films showing on the opening weekend of the series include: Winning Streak (Los Pelayos Spain 2012) from director Eduard Cortés screens tonight at 6: 30 p.m.; Polisse (France 2011) the third feature written and directed by single-named French actress Maïwenn is showing Saturday, Nov. 24 at 6: 30 p.m. and Small Crime (Cyprus/Greece/ Germany 2008) from director Christos Georgiou screens Sunday, Nov. 25 at 4: 30 p.m.
