For more than five decades, Fred Herzog has focused his lens on Vancouver street life, and his striking colour photographs are collected in a new book Fred Herzog: Photographs, published by Douglas & McIntyre. His bold use of colour was unusual in the 1950s and 60s, a time when art photography was almost exclusively associated with black-and-white imagery.
Essays in the book from Claudia Gochmann, Sarah Milroy, Douglas Coupland and Jeff Wall provide context for Herzogs imagery. The innovative artists work is on view in a new exhibit, Fred Herzog: A Retrospective, at Equinox Project Space (525 Great Northern Way on the Great Northern Way Campus). For a chance to win a copy of the new book tell us what type of slide film Herzog primarily worked with.
Email your entry to Fred Herzog Contest at [email protected]. Deadline for the contest is Feb. 13, 5 p.m. Only residents living in the Lower Mainland/Greater Vancouver area are eligible to enter. Winners will be chosen in a random draw. For more information on the book visit http://www.dmpibooks.com/book/fred-herzog-photographs.
