VIMFF STAFF

ALAN FORMANEK Festival Director

I founded VIMFF in 1998 and have directed it ever since. I like working with our great and lovely staff and volunteers, creating something out of nothing, and not leaving much of a footprint; energy that truly inspires and changes lives, that brings like-minded people together. I also run the Hory a mesto festival in Slovakia, the San Vito Climbing Festival in Sicily, and I love rock climbing on the Mediterranean islands.

MARC HEWITT Director of Operations

From 2008 to 2011 I was the VIMFF Film Jury Coordinator, but I'm now working with Alan and Tiffany to plan and direct the Festival's operations throughout the year. My most enjoyable part of working with VIMFF is absorbing inspiration from the films, the presenters, and the addictive energy of VIMFF events; and when I'm not working at VIMFF, I like snowboarding, rock climbing, beach volleyball, and mountaineering.

TOM WRIGHT Film Competition Manager

I am the Film Competition Manager and Jury Coordinator for VIMFF. My favourite part about VIMFF is how it brings our community together and gets people psyched to pursue their dreams in the mountains. I can't decide what I like more, climbing or back-country skiing, but when I can do neither I enjoy watching mountain films and dreaming about future climbing trips

DOMINIKA MICHALAK Venue Manager

I recently moved to Canada where I am enrolled in Tourism Management Program at Capilano University. My great passions are climbing, back country skiing, kayaking and hiking and this place allows me to realize my dreams. I like working for VIMFF because of opportunity to meet great people, to see amazing things what others are doing, and to get motivation to become a better climber.

KELLY UREN Production Manager

No matter where I'm at in the world or in life, I have made sure to be involved with VIMFF Production for the past 6 years, coordinating and connecting with the variety of people who make VIMFF happen. This is suiting, being an adventurous, social butterfly who loves to spread happiness. When I'm not working for VIMFF, I hold a variety of other outdoor and community based work, or am living my dream by exploring this amazing world.

ANDERS MJOS Production Manager

For VIMFF I do production and projection. When not working for VIMFF I produce rare isotopes at the local cyclotron. I enjoy working with the great team of VIMFF volunteers and I am getting inspired every year by the VIMFF films and presentations.

SAMMY KUCHMAK Production Manager

I've been volunteering for VIMFF for the past 4 years: doing everything from creating lobby displays to helping with grant writing and sponsorship to managing one of the venues. I got involved with VIMFF as it seemed like a great way to get inspired to get outdoors. We are so spoiled with Vancouver's backyard and VIMFF is an amazing resource that draws in a wicked community that are all striving to push the boundaries while hugging a tree or two along the way.

TAVI PARUSEL Audio-Visual Coordinator

I am the A/V guy & projectionist for VIMFF. As a documentary filmmaker myself, I love working at the festival because I get the perfect excuse to see amazing films about inspiring stories and adventures.

TIFFANY MELIUS Director of External Relations

I am an Australian-born athlete, adventurer and worldtraveller. I work on various aspects of VIMFF including marketing, volunteers and general operations.
