A free comprehensive map of North Shore bicycle routes is now available at bike stores, municipal halls, libraries and recreation centres across the North Shore.

The map was produced by volunteers with HUB: Your Cycling Connection (formerly known as the Vancouver Area Cycling Coalition) in co-ordination with transportation planners from the three North Shore municipalities, according to a written statement.

The map covers all of the North Shore, spanning from Deep Cove to Horseshoe Bay. It includes the designated and signed routes as well as many other recommended routes.

The less familiar routes were submitted by members of the general public and include favourite shortcuts, including trails, side streets and lanes used by bike commuters and recreational cyclists to navigate the North Shore hills and around barriers like creeks and busy streets. One popular route connects Lower Lynn to Upper Lynn Valley, while avoiding busy Mountain Highway.

Mountain bike trail access points are also indicated on the publication. The map is the same size and format as those produced by the cities of Vancouver, New Westminster and Coquitlam and unfolds from a convenient credit card-size to a readable 23 by nine inches.

A PDF version of the map is available for download and printing or viewing on mobile devices on the HUB website (www.bikehub.ca) and on the municipal websites.

The initiative's major financial sponsor was Mountain Equipment Co-op, which contributed 85 per cent of the $16,000 cost of map design and printing. The balance was provided by the City of North Vancouver.
