VIMFF launches photography contest

On the eve of the 18th annual Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival, being held Feb.

On the eve of the 18th annual Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival, being held Feb. 13-21 at a variety of venues, including North Vancouver's Centennial Theatre, community members are invited to get in on the action by entering the VIMFF 2015 Mountain Photo Contest.

The contest is intended as an opportunity for all photographers to present their mountain photography to the public. It's a forum for the sharing of imagery and the exchange of ideas between photographers, mountaineers and outdoor enthusiasts alike, according to the festival website.

Categories include mountain adventure, mountain culture and mountain landscape.

The grand prize winner will receive $1,000 and category winners will be awarded $500. Runners up will receive products from various festival sponsors.

Winners will be awarded at the VIMFF 2015 Opening Evening, Feb. 13 at 7:30 p.m. at Centennial Theatre.

Winning images will be displayed at the theatre throughout the festival and on its website, in addition to selected outdoor and climbing magazines.

Deadline for entries is Feb. 1. For more information on the contest as well as this year's festival, visit vimff.org.
