? Canada's Weather, by Chris St. Clair, Firefly Books, 226 pages, $24.95
IN a country as large and diverse as Canada it is no surprise that the weather can range from one extreme to another.
And with that diversity comes dialogue, fueling conversations from one side of the country to the other. No one has more to say about the weather than Chris St. Clair with his long-standing role on the Weather Network.
The book is filled with weather trivia such as the two records Prince George holds, most rainfall at 2,552mm every year and most hours of cloud cover (6,123 hours). But there is more than just facts. St. Clair gives explanations of how weather systems work. Through illustrations and photographs we gain understanding of how events like tornadoes are born.
The four seasons are depicted across the country showing the best and worst of the weather. There is a special section devoted to Canadian weather disasters. This includes the ice storm of 1998, and the fires in the Okanagan in 2003.
