Animal lovers with a big heart and a sweet tooth are invited to take part in this year’s National Cupcake Day.

Scheduled for Feb. 26, the cross-country campaign aims to raise money for shelters, SPCAs, and humane societies through individually-hosted cupcake parties.

The SPCA is encouraging dog-loving do-gooders to host a party any time in February and offer cupcakes to donors.

According to figures provided by the SPCA, the event has helped 4,313 neglected, abused and abandoned animals by raising $2.45 million. An estimated 106,521 cupcakes have been consumed.

Registration is free and can be done individually or as a team through BC SPCA. Participants are encouraged to create a page, explain why they’re raising funds, and promote their party through social media.

Bakers are also encouraged to consider using free-range eggs or vegan cupcakes.
