SUSTAINABILITY is a concept that is being embraced by all aspects of the building profession.

For the interior designer there are many challenges that go with this because much of what they are tasked to work with has already been created.

Working within the newly constructed or renovated space often means compromises must be made, but with more information on sustainable products a designer can have a more environmentally friendly project.

Moxon presents the case for sustainability throughout the book. Starting with an analysis of the problems facing designers she moves into questions that need to be asked on every project, such as how long will the interior will be required, what materials are appropriate and what will happen to it when it is no longer useful?

Moxon looks at four key issues in Chapter 3: Energy, Water, Materials, and Construction Methods. In the final chapter she illustrates how to put sustainability into practice through a series of case studies that reflect practices that have been applied to temporary, flexible and longterm projects.

From simple bookcases made from recycled wood to elaborate home redesigns, the sustainable approach is celebrated through the many examples depicted throughout the book in illustrations and colour photographs.
