Smartphone app helps with garbage day

THERE is no longer an excuse to miss garbage day on the North Shore.

THERE is no longer an excuse to miss garbage day on the North Shore.

The North Shore Recycling Program has released a free smartphone app called My Waste that will make it easier for residents to find out when their trash and recycling will be collected.

The My Waste app allows users to set reminders about when collection days are.

It also includes information about what materials are collected in the curbside collection program and how to prepare them.

There is also information on what residents can and cannot put out at the curb, as well as yard trimming collection.

Current versions of the app are available for the iPhone, iPad, iPod and Android powered smartphones and tablets. The app will be available for Blackberry users later this year.

Residents of the North Shore can download the app by scanning the QR code found on collection calendars or by typing www.my-waste. mobi/North-Shore/ into their smartphone or tablet Internet browser.

The recycling program will still provide information on printed schedules and its website.
