FOR 11 years, North Vancouver Realtor Kim Thom has been hosting fundraising events to support Sheway, a pregnancy outreach program in the Downtown Eastside.

"It started in 1999. I wanted to have a luncheon for some of my Realtor friends . . . I decided we would make it for a good cause."

Sheway provides health and social service supports to pregnant women and women with infants under 18 months who are dealing with drug and alcohol issues.

Over the years, her luncheon and then tea events grew, and raised more than $50,000 total. But the events became a victim of their own success.

"It's just too much for me to do every year," explained Thom. She didn't hold the events this year.

She did, however, publish a cookbook of recipes, including many dishes, snacks and treats that she served at the Sheway fundraisers.

Doughnation$ features casual baking, bake sale items, lunchbox treats (half the recipes are cookies) and hostess gifts.

"I put it together in such a way that it's easy for the next generation of bakers to use. People don't bake anymore. The book simplifies it."

Doughnation$ is $15 plus $2.06 shipping and handling. All of the profits will be donated to Sheway.
