Here is a quick and easy idea for your next dinner party. These little edible floral cubes can be made early in the day or the night before your event. Remember to fill the water in three stages for best results.

Materials:

2 standard, large ice-cube trays

Tap water

Edible flowers (such as pansies, nasturtiums and impatiens)

Freezer

These little beauties look wonderful in guest's drinks. If you prepare them ahead of time they will be ready to serve upon your guest's arrival.

Carefully remove the stems from the edible flowers. I used impatiens and removed the tiny green stem from the back. Wash them in cool water and lay them flat on a paper towel to dry.

Once the flowers are dry, fill the ice cube trays one-third full of water and place a single flower face down inside the tray. Place the trays in the freezer until frozen. Remove the trays and fill each container one-third full of more water and freeze. Repeat one last layer and freeze.

To remove the ice cubes you can twist the tray to pop them out or simple place the tray in water at room temperature for a minute and the cubes should easily slide away from the tray.

Stack two or three cubes in each highball and serve with your favourite beverage.
