Photo cubes are unique family keepsake

Puzzle display showcases six images

DID you have some wonderful photographs from your summer vacation?

Why not use them in this cute idea as a gift or perhaps for your own desk at home.

Small wooden cubes can be found in most craft stores such as Michaels. I found the two-inch ones worked best for this idea.

Mod Podge is a waterbased sealer, glue and finish and it is available in a matte or gloss finish. I like to use it as multi-purpose glue with a small brush for projects such as this.

Materials:

6 (2x2 inch) plain wooden cubes

Mod Podge (glossy or matte)

Small paint brush

6 (4 x 6 photographs)

Box cutter

This idea is very simple. All you need to do is plan ahead a day or so to let the various coats of Mod Podge dry in between applying your photographs.

Begin by laying your wooden cubes down on a clean, dry work surface. Place them in a 4 x 6 pattern so that all the edges are touching. Apply your first coat of Mod Podge on the upright surface of each cube. Carefully lay your photograph on top and let dry. Apply a second coat of Modge Podge as a sealer. Let dry.

Repeat these steps on all six sides of the cubes. Using your box cutter, carefully separate the cubes into six pieces. In the end you will have a puzzle on each side to put together for each photograph.

Alternatively, you can also measure out each twoinch cube on the backside of the photograph and cut each one out with a pair of scissors. Then you are able to apply the 2x2 portion of the photograph separately to each cube. The same result appears.

A nice way to present this idea is to place the cubes in a clear, cellophane bag with one photograph facing upwards. Tie off with a pretty ribbon.
