TWO North Vancouver companies struck silver at the Vancouver Regional Construction Association's Awards of Excellence last month.

A recent press release noted the silver awards were presented in anticipation of the VRCA gold awards, scheduled for Oct. 17. The Keith Plumbing and Heating Co. and Keith Panel Systems took home awards.

The Capilano Cliffwalk, a series of suspended walkways jutting out from the cliff face above Capilano River, also nabbed silver for best project.

The Keith Plumbing and Heating Co. captured the award for mechanical contractors who have completed a project valued at more than $3 million. Specializing in plumbing, heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning for hospitals, the company employs 200 workers.

Keith Panel Systems, which won the Chairman's Trade Award, specializes in rainscreen panel systems. The architectural facades, which add a layer of protection to buildings, are used to shield buildings from rain while boosting thermal insulation. Keith Panel Systems' work can be seen on one of the parcels of Vancouver's Olympic Village.

Judges evaluated the respective companies and projects based on their use of innovative techniques, new materials, and project management.

Vancouver Regional Construction Association president Keith Sashaw stated in the press release that they represent companies that were able to bring projects of the highest calibre in on time and on budget.

The winners were chosen from 267 companies and 67 projects.
