A North Vancouver hairstylist has proven that her coifs are a cut above the rest.
Dana Lyseng, owner of Supernova Salon in Lower Lonsdale, was named British Columbia Salon Stylist of the Year at the 2014 Canadian Hairdresser Mirror Awards, held earlier this month in Toronto.
For her winning competition entry, Lyseng, with the assistance of her salon team, created a collection inspired by both pop star Lady Gaga and the 1982 dystopian film Blade Runner.
"The styles are built around strong warrior shapes with clean edges and bold dramatic colours," Lyseng says in a press release.
Lyseng has been in the hair industry for more than 15 years and got her start at hairdressing school at Vidal Sassoon in Los Angeles. In addition to running her North Vancouver salon, she also does hairstyling for film projects, music videos and live shows.
The annual Mirror Awards, presented by Canadian Hairdresser magazine, celebrate the best in the hair and beauty industry. Each year, hairdressers from across the country are invited to submit a photographic collection of their work, which is then judged by industry professionals.
The top five finalists in each of the more than 20 categories are invited to the awards gala in Toronto.
