ROSS Road elementary student Kristen Schulz is one of six student filmmakers that will soon be honoured at the Governor General's Awards at Rideau Hall in Ottawa, Ont.
Schulz, 12, is one of approximately 200 students between grades 4 and 11 who hoisted video cameras this year to highlight a historically significant milestone in Canada or in their community.
The North Vancouver student's film, The Heritage of My Home, was one of the six movies to register the most online votes, as well as being selected by a panel of judges.
In her film, Schulz researches her 1926 home, discovering that a former inhabitant was District of North Vancouver commissioner Sam Sowden. She also makes a plea for preservation of heritage homes.
Schulz's film, as well as the work of her fellow award winners, will be screened on Dec. 9 at the National History Forum in Ottawa. The award ceremony will take place on Dec. 10.
