The leaves are all changing and our city really does shine at this time of year. If you are planning to host company over the next while you may want to take the time to prepare their accommodations so that they feel welcomed and at home. Just a few extra touches can mean all the difference. All it takes is a little planning and most of your preparations can be done the day ahead.
The guest room is probably the one room where your guests will spend the majority of their time. Whether it's reading, having a nap or just a space for them to get away for awhile, this room should be set up in such a way that makes them the most comfortable.
Be sure to assemble a comfortable bed with extra pillows and blankets stored in a nearby closet for easy retrieval during the nighttime. Having a blanket across the bed is a nice touch for someone wishing to read during the day or for added comfort at night.
Good lighting is always essential in a bedroom. There should be a reading lamp on each side of the bed or at least one mounted on the wall for nighttime reading. A bedside table is important for your guests to leave their belongings, clocks and other personal items. It's a nice touch as well to leave a few current magazines by the bedside for your guests to peruse during their stay.
Prepare a little pocket towel with a complimentary toothbrush, paste and perhaps a hair comb or brush. Using a hand towel, place it face down on a working surface. Fold up the bottom one-third of the towel and flip it over. Tuck in one side of the towel into the other to secure. Insert your bathroom accessories and hang it over top of another larger bath towel.
As an added touch it's nice to prepare a little guest gift basket and place it either on a dresser or across the bed. Fill the tray with miniature guest soaps, bath sachets, pedicure items and other bathroom luxuries they may enjoy during their stay.
The easier you make the transition from their home to your home the more they will appreciate it. Sometimes the little gestures you have taken are the ones most remembered.
