North Vancouver’s Mia Jenkinson, 8, leads the way in an autism awareness walk to her school, Queensbury elementary, April 1. The initiative was timed with Autism Awareness Month, observed in April, and was held in support of the Canucks Autism Network. Jenkinson was inspired to encourage her classmates and community supporters to dedicate their morning walk to school to autism awareness in light of her younger brother Kyle’s diagnosis with autism. Last year, Jenkinson initiated an autism “wear blue” campaign at her school, and this year is organizing a fundraising initiative for the network, which her brother has benefitted from. canucksautism.ca
