As the winter season approaches and temperatures continue to drop, the Greater Vancouver Homebuilders’ Association is hoping Lower Mainland residents will once again step up to help the less fortunate stay warm through its Coats For Kids campaign.
There are four North Shore locations accepting donations of new and lightly used winter clothing items before the 21st annual initiative supporting the Lower Mainland and Surrey Christmas Bureaus wraps up on Dec. 1.
In 2015, the campaign saw more than 3,000 items donated to children of all ages, but the need remains high as officials are seeing higher demand in part from an increase in refugees and workers arriving with their families from Alberta.
Campaign organizers said there is especially a need for coats for teenagers, many of whom can fit adult sizes but are looking for items with youth appeal, such as hoodies. Donations of gloves, scarves, hats and unwrapped toys are also encouraged.
