Hardware, pantry staples find new uses

HOW many times have you seen a clever idea at a friend's house and thought, "Why didn't I think of that?" There are so many good ideas floating around and it's always nice to share them with friends.

HOW many times have you seen a clever idea at a friend's house and thought, "Why didn't I think of that?"

There are so many good ideas floating around and it's always nice to share them with friends.

Here are a few that I have picked up over the years that I can share with you.

The bobby pin idea is fantastic if you have a daughter that uses them on a daily basis and if you try the salt/decanter idea be sure to use coarse salt rather than table salt.

Magnetic strips

Next time you are in your local hardware or craft store, you may want to pick up a roll of magnetic tape.

It usually comes in a few different widths. I found the narrower one works fine for this idea.

Simply measure off the width of your inside cupboard door and cut a piece of magnetic tape to fit. Peel off the backing on the tape and apply to the inside door.

Attach a row of bobby pins to the door for easy access. You may also want to paint the tape to match the door colour before applying the pins.

Salt

I can't believe how versatile salt is. It's amazing how many uses this product has in the house especially as a natural cleansing remedy.

To remove a stubborn red wine stain from your wine decanter, simply swirl coarse salt combined with some ice cubes around the base.

This should eliminate any stains and leftover mineral deposits.

Try it on glass baking ware as well.

Lint rollers

I love to use my lint roller to clean up any leftover craft items such as threads, beads and other remnants.

You can also use it to clean your vacuum head.

Soft paint brushes

If a feather duster is not within reach, try using a soft paintbrush to get those hard to-reach areas in the home.

Tops of picture frames, lampshades and tall cabinets are all examples of areas where a soft paintbrush can do the job.

Use them to clean computer keyboards and small electronics as well.
