The North Vancouver Lawn Bowling Club -- located at 22nd and Lonsdale Ave. -- is among the oldest North Shore sports clubs and one of the largest clubs of its kind in Canada. In 2011, more than 260 members were regulars on the greens and in the clubhouse.

You don't have to be a seasoned veteran of the sport to join. The doors are open to aspiring and experienced male or female bowlers of all ages. Annual membership dues at the club are $165 and $50 for students and children under 19. The club has a roster of more than 20 fully certified coaches to introduce new players to the game and help even the most experienced bowlers hone their skills. Lawn bowls can be a precision sport that is played for the challenge and competition, but can also be enjoyed for the physical activity, the

pleasure of spending time outdoors and for social interaction. It is also a low impact, therapeutic form of exercise.

Always wanted to try lawn bowling? The club is hosting an Open House on May 12 where they are encouraging all to give this sport a try. Drop in from 12:30-3pm and you will be guided on how to play.

The club will host its eighth annual Community Charity Challenge on June 3, with all proceeds benefiting the North Vancouver Homeless Shelter.
