HAVING recently moved back to B.C. from Edmonton, where I enjoyed a very hot, dry summer, my skin was in need of a moisture boost.
After applying moisturizers, I will usually feel an immediate sense of relief but the dryness creeps back after a few hours.
I decided to give Garnier Moisture Rescue Refreshing Gel-Cream a shot. The product is designed to "lock in moisture and block out dryness for 24 hours" and includes active ingredients glycerin, fruit water and Vitamin C, B and E to provide a soothing effect.
So, did it deliver?
The gel-cream formula is definitely wetter than a normal cream, so there is a refreshing burst of hydration when it is first applied. And the moisture does last - I did not find myself having to reapply during the day. If anything, I wish the "cream" component were a little bit more pronounced. This feels like a pure gel, which means there is a hint of a sticky residue. For the price, $11, I would still recommend it for someone looking for an alternative to a run-of-themill lotion or cream.
I also tried Garnier's Skin Renew Dark Spot Overnight Peel.
Dark spots can be caused by the sun, acne or aging. Because I have a dark complexion, mine tend to linger forever, making them a huge pet peeve.
Dermatologists and many spas use chemical peels as a means of getting rid of these spots, but those can cause irritation, especially in sensitive skin. Garnier claims its formula, which contains glycolic acid and Vitamin C complex, is gentle enough to use nightly. I have only been using it for a couple of weeks but my skin does look brighter and more uniform overall. Plus, at $20, it is a fraction of the cost of a regular peel.
