Anna Kanz of the Vancouver Orchid Society offers tips at a presentation sponsored by the West Vancouver Seniors’ Centre Garden Club. The group brings together both new and experienced gardeners to engage in a wide range of activities to get their hands in the dirt, expand their gardening knowledge and to make new friends. Club members meet Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the centre where they garden in a set of adjacent community garden beds. Participants are excited about the addition of 10 new beds planned for this spring, some of which are raised and designed for access by those with mobility challenges. The club also partners with two local schools to bring seniors and students together in the garden. Annual membership is $35, which includes gardening, workshops, speakers, field trips, garden tours, cooking days and more. Club activities can also be attended for a $5 drop-in fee.
