FLORAL pomanders are not just for weddings. These beautiful floral balls (sometimes called "kissing balls") are popular at many special occasions.
You may have seen them as wedding centrepieces or perhaps you remember a flower girl carrying one down the aisle. I recently saw a series of fresh, red rose pomanders in a hotel lobby as a display.
Here's a fun twist on an artificial flower pomander that makes a cute gift wrap idea. I purchased most of my supplies at Michaels; however, you may be able to find many of the items at your local dollar store as well.
Materials:
Small (3-4 cm diameter)
Styrofoam ball
Miniature artificial flowers
Fancy pearl push pins
Ribbon (optional)
If you plan on making a pomander in a colour other than white it is a good idea to paint the Styrofoam ball the same colour so as to avoid viewing any white beneath the flowers. You can use a nontoxic acrylic paint for this.
Once the Styrofoam ball is dry, insert a pin through the centre of the miniature flower and place inside the Styrofoam ball. Continue to do this until the whole ball is completely covered.
If you would like to hang the pomander, simply attach a ribbon to the ball by tying a knot in the ribbon and inserting another push pin through the knot and into the Styrofoam ball.
For a pretty gift idea, purchase one of Michael's clear paint cans (in the gift wrap section) and wrap in a colourful paper. Make a bow with some complementary ribbon and glue your pomander to the top of the can.
