WHAT if you could cook Arctic char, chocolate brownies and a pasta dish all in the oven at the same time with no flavour transfer?

Well, now you can with the new Wolf Convection Steam Oven.

It's hard to believe or understand but professional chefs have long appreciated the way steam cooking preserves nutrients and keeps food moist. One of the more important differences between this convection steam oven and its previous predecessors is that this oven can brown your meats as well.

It's all about delivering precise control with your cooking.

The Wolf convection steam oven uses unique technology to sense the amount, size and shape of your food choice once an automatic mode has been selected. It features stainless steel panels with modern, tubular handles. Complete with 12 cooking modes, this four-level-rack oven has a large viewing window and halogen interior lighting.

So why choose a convection steam oven over the more traditional electric or gas models? It's quite simple, actually; electric ovens tend to dry out food quickly if you are not careful to monitor the cooking process. With a convection steam oven, moistness and flavour are retained so additional oil or basting is not necessary.

It seems the impossible is possible for this appliance. For example, you can bake a filo-wrapped ice cream dessert in this oven.

The result will be a hot, delicate, crispy-brown pastry surrounding firmly frozen ice cream. Sounds impossible but it's true.

In a pinch for breakfast? Simply place a dozen eggs (carton and all) inside the oven, press a button and in minutes you have hardboiled eggs.

Select the slow roast option and input the time you would like to serve your meal. It programs itself to finish at that moment including the ever-important resting time.

This oven retails at Y Franks for $5,000. A bit more than the more mainstream wall ovens, but well worth it in my opinion. It really does take cooking to a whole new level. In comparison, a Bosch single wall oven retails for $3,500 and a basic Kitchen Aid wall oven is in the $2,800 range. The difference is that this convection steam oven is an oven and a steam/convection all in one.

Another product duo that caught my eye was Asko environmentally friendly washers and dryers. Asko has always been known to produce some of the most water and energy efficient appliances in the world. Recently, they were honoured with the Good Green Design award, which values well-designed products that fully embrace the environment and are leaders in this respect.

Choose between the family size washer dryer combination, $2,880 per set, and the more upscale built-in cabinet-ready models at $4,800 a set. These front-load washers and dryers offer ample space and state of the art technology for producing the best laundry results.
