If you venture into the woods, you might be in for a surprise...or several of them.

Local Artist Nickie Lewis has erected multiple natural sculptures in Robert Burnaby Park that she created out of twigs and twine. The mythical beasts include everything from a friendly-looking dragon to a beautiful mermaid to a snoozing fairy.

The collection also features a couple of notable Star Wars characters, including a  pair of adorable Ewoks and a hairy Chewbacca (minus the iconic roar).

Lewis mentions on Instagram that she also spent over 30 hours creating one of the sculptures--a soaring, 20-foot troll. Upon completing the behemoth, she remarks that she found herself "a little sad. He is amazing and I love him."

Where to find the sculptures in Robert Burnaby Park

If you're on a mission to locate the whimsical beasts, Lewis has also created a map to find them.

That said, please ensure that you are careful if you visit the sculptures. Lewis notes that she's seen a couple of her smaller pieces vanish, while others have been damaged.

She adds: "They are not meant to hold any weight and they could collapse and cause injuries to you or your littles."

Vancouver Is Awesome visited the park earlier this week to record the magical creatures up-close-and-personal. We snuck in a woodpecker, too.

Lewis is a co-owner of The Wizards Makery, which is a home-based business that specializes in one-of-a-kind, custom art.
