HUNDREDS of women will come together in 14 communities across Canada, including North Vancouver, to host Women & Wellness events in 2012.

According to a written statement from the North and West Vancouver branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association, Women & Wellness is a unique and popular event that supports the work of the association. Funds raised will help representatives deliver education and support programs for people afflicted with mental illness, their loved ones and the public.

Women & Wellness began nine years ago as a "kitchen party with a purpose." Now sponsored by Shoppers Drug Mart, the initiative has raised more than $600,000 in the last six years.

Women & Wellness events are designed to unite and empower women by reaching out to those who are affected by a range of mental health issues and concerns; whether they are experiencing these issues personally or acting as an advocate for someone who is not in a position to advocate for themselves.

The North Shore Women & Wellness event will be held on Feb. 9.

The event will also feature inspirational stories from Sarah Jamieson, an athlete running for social change and Jenn Hewlett, founder of Fresh Air Life. There is no cost to attend. The location will be given upon registration, email [email protected]. Info: www. northwestvancouver.cmha.bc.ca.
