CANADIAN furniture and home decor store Urban Barn is inviting shoppers to join in blanketing the country in warmth.

With every $5 donation, the retailer will donate a new fleece blanket to a local homeless shelter within the community.

The initiative is running throughout the month of November at all 41 Urban Barn retail locations in Canada's five most westerly provinces with a goal of donating 8,000 blankets to the cause.

The Vancouver-based company has partnered with 25 shelters in these areas, according to a release.

Donations collected at Urban Barn locations in The Village at Park Royal and on South Granville will benefit Covenant House, which operates a 54-bed, 24-hour crisis shelter that provides food, clothing, counselling and shelter to street youth living in Vancouver.

The charitable campaign ends this Sunday, Dec. 2. To learn more about the initiative, visit blanketthecountry.com.
