Business suits and bed linens at Bellevue shop

FASHION and homewares under one roof: it's a winning concept that American retailers like Anthopologie have perfected.

FASHION and homewares under one roof: it's a winning concept that American retailers like Anthopologie have perfected.

Two West Vancouver boutique owners are hoping the idea catches on with local styleseekers by creating a one-stop shop that showcases the latest looks for the home as well as the wardrobe.

When Susan Rosenberg, owner of RoseHill Bed & Bath, closed her Bellevue Avenue storefront and reopened as a shop-in-shop at Maureen Elliott's nearby women's clothing store Orquidea, both entrepreneurs found a smart solution to challenges they were facing due to the economic downturn.

The move has allowed both entrepreneurs to reduce their overhead, but clients have benefitted too. Now, at 1441 Bellevue Ave., shoppers can find everything from highend European clothing and accessories to Italian bed linens and French bath soaps.

To accommodate RoseHill, Elliott knocked down walls to an empty stockroom and underused office, removed furniture and installed spacesaving storage for business essentials. "It gave us a great excuse to get rid of a lot of junk," says Elliott, who notes that both shops now share customers and ideas as well as space.
