Alan Stewart of Sussex remains on board as general manager. Royal LePage Sussex has offices in North Vancouver, West Vancouver, Gibsons, Sechelt and Pender Harbour (Madeira Park). According to a press release, Royal LePage now has a more than 25 per cent share of the North Vancouver, West Vancouver and Sunshine Coast markets combined.

Industry awards West Vancouver's Dan Jepsen is being recognized for his contributions to the mineral exploration and development industry. Jepsen is the recipient of the Association for Mineral Exploration British Columbia's 2014 Gold Pan Award for his service to the mineral exploration community through his work with the association as past executive director from 2002 to 2006 and president and CEO from 2006 to 2008. He is currently chairman and CEO of C3 Alliance Corp. The AME BC Awards Celebration of Excellence Gala takes place Jan. 27 at the Vancouver Convention Centre West.

Shipyards work BC Ferries recently started two major projects at Seaspan in North Vancouver.

On Nov. 28, a ceremony to mark the keel-laying of a new cable ferry took place at the shipyards. In keeping with maritime tradition, a silver bullion coin was placed in the vessel and will remain there for its service life.

Once complete, the cable ferry will measure 78.5 metres long and will accommodate 50 vehicles and 150 passengers and crew.

Meanwhile, BC Ferries' 33-year-old Queen of Oak Bay has started the first phase of a $7.7-million three-quarter life upgrade.

Best in B.C. Several North Shore businesses are semi-finalists for the 12th Annual Small Business BC Awards. From Oct. 1 to Nov. 30, British Columbians were asked to nominate and vote for their favourite small businesses. Nominated companies had two months to earn as many votes as possible through word-of-mouth, social media, e-communications and other means.

Semi-finalists from the North Shore include Sole Girls (Best Community Impact); The Juicery Co. (Best Emerging Entrepreneur); RB Plumbing Heating Ltd. (Best Employer); and CCN, North (Best Workplace). The Top 5 finalists in 10 categories will be announced Jan. 30 and invited to give a Dragons' Den-style pitch on why they should be named the best in B.C. The winners will be honored Feb. 26 at the Small Business BC Awards Ceremony in Vancouver.
