Community members are encouraged to nominate worthy local residents for the 2016 Tim Jones Community Achievement Award.
The annual award recognizes the exceptional contribution or achievement of an individual or a couple in any aspect of the North Shore community, according to a press release.
Co-presented by the Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival and North Shore Rescue, the award will be given out at the VIMFF Opening Night, Feb. 12, 2016, at North Vancouver's Centennial Theatre.
Criteria includes those who have been active in the North Shore outdoors or sports community; who've made an outstanding contribution; and are perceived as an unsung hero, or someone who has received little in the way of national and or public recognition for their accomplishments Past recipients include North Shore trail builder Todd 'Digger' Fiander, who received the very first award, presented by mountain bike freeride 'Godfather' Wade Simmons.
In 2014, the award was renamed the Tim Jones Community Achievement Award, in memoriam of the late and great Tim Jones, paramedic and chief for more than 24 years of North Shore Rescue. Jones received this award posthumous in 2015 and his daughter Taylor accepted on his behalf. The award was renamed to continue Tim's legacy and to keep on inspiring community members to selflessly help others. The mission of the award is to educate and share the passion for nature and the love for our backyard mountains.
Nominations from the public will be accepted until Jan. 10, 2016.
